About Us

Music in Deerfield (MID), a non-profit organization, has brought first-rate performances of chamber music to the Pioneer Valley since 1979. It was founded in Deerfield, but in recent years, in collaboration with the Smith College Music Department, has presented all its concerts in Sweeney Concert Hall on the Smith campus.
The disconnect between the name “Music In Deerfield” and the actual location of the concerts has been confusing for potential patrons unaware of the organization’s history. In 2016, after more than a decade in Northampton, the Board decided to re-name the series “Valley Classical Concerts” – a simple, descriptive identity that evokes not only geographic reality, but our commitment to the entire region.
Valley Classical Concerts’ musical values are unchanged. We are pledged to presenting a mix of eminent established musicians and exciting early-career ensembles, in varied programs that include both mainstream classical music and the works of 20th and 21st century composers – concerts that Valley residents might otherwise hear only by traveling to a major metropolitan area. VCC broadens access to this great music through deeply discounted children’s, family, and student pricing and other special admission opportunities.
